Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is a smartwatch developed by Apple that offers a wide variety of functions such as fitness tracking, health tracking, notifications, and smart home devices’ control.

One of the main advantages of the Apple Watch is its integration with the Apple operating system, which allows easy access to functions such as messaging, calls, and music control through voice commands and touch gestures. In addition, the Apple Watch has a wide variety of health and wellness features, such as sleep tracking, physical activity, and heart rate monitoring; in addition to receiving notifications and responding to messages without having to take the phone out of your pocket. It can also control smart home devices, be used as a GPS, and as a payment method with the Apple Pay function.

Some users have reported allergic reactions to wearing the watch, as well as itching, burning, or excessive heat from the device. In my case, as a researcher, I have used this device for more than 3 years and I have found variations in the electromagnetic emission levels. In the same way, in thermal radiation, the device presents an unusual heat emission that can be uncomfortable for people when it is just removed from the charger.

I must point out that I have dealt with a dozen electrohypersensitivity cases who have reported rashes, pricking sensations in the wrist, and even tingling. Tests have also shown unusual emission and electrostatic discharge from the device when below 20% battery charge.

Operationally, Apple Watch uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity technology to connect to an Apple device and provide a wide variety of functions. In addition, it has a touch screen and physical buttons to control the functions, as well as a microphone and speaker to make calls and activate the voice assistant.

The declared SAR level for Apple Watch is 1.59 W/kg in transmit mode and 1.34 W/kg in receive mode. This device has a high SAR emission, comparatively, it can be equivalent to the values declared by a smartphone of the same brand (iPhone).

As with the Air Pods, I have managed to effectively control electromagnetic fields through the SPIRO® filtering technology, allowing even individuals with severe EHS to use this smartwatch with the incorporation of the SPIRO® CARD in close proximity and following the recommendations for use, such as not using it when the battery is below 20% and not putting it on immediately after completing the charging process.

AirPods

AirPods have become a mainstream and often-used accessory for remote work, social media streaming, and video calls. The usage has been on the rise and the Apple company has recently made improvements to what it calls an AirPod Pro.

Apple describes its product as high-quality wireless headphones with an ergonomic design that is comfortable for long-time usage. One of the main advantages of AirPods is their integration with Apple’s operating system, allowing easy access to playback and volume control functions through voice commands and touch gestures. In addition, AirPods have an excellent sound quality and long battery life.

As in the case of AirTags, the disadvantage mentioned by AirPods’ users is that they are only compatible with Apple devices, which limits their use to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. In addition, the price of AirPods can be considered high compared to other wireless headphones on the market. However, continuously, month after month, I receive contacts from young men and women, Apple users, who are presenting early Tinnitus and whose common denominator is the use of AirPods.

In terms of operation, AirPods use Bluetooth connectivity technology to connect to an Apple device and provide high-quality sound. In addition, they have a touch sensor on each earphone that allows control of playback and volume; In the same way, they have a microphone to make calls and activate voice assistants.

The declared SAR level for AirPods is 0.98 W/kg in transmit mode and 0.91 W/kg in receive mode.

As an EMF researcher, I find that these devices, if they are to be used, need to operate in close proximity to the SPIRO® CARD Filter. Case studies with the A Better Hearing laboratory in Naples, Fl. showed us that the use of the SPIRO® CARD in permanent proximity to these devices in patients presenting Tinnitus, resulted in a significant reduction in its intensity, a variable measurable in dB.

Recommended Filter:

SPIRO® CARD (In proximity, carry it in your pocket or on your mobile).

AirTags

Apple AirTag is a wireless tracking device that can be attached to personal items like keys, bags, and suitcases to help find them if they’re lost. One of the main advantages of the AirTags is its integration with Apple’s “Find My” system, which allows the location of the AirTags to be tracked in real time through an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. In addition, the AirTag has a compact design and is waterproof, making it ideal to take with you everywhere.

Technology blogs and magazines only point out as disadvantages of AirTags that they are only compatible with Apple devices, which limits their use to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users. In addition, the price of AirTags can be considered high compared to other similar devices on the market. Some use examples for AirTags include placing one on your key to easily find it if it’s lost, placing one in your hand bag so you don’t lose it at the airport, or placing one in your car to find it in a busy parking lot.

But recently, airports have started filing complaints about this device. Why? Well, because there are other aspects that are not considered, such as Electromagnetic Fields (the interference they can produce and the implications for electrically sensitive people).

Let’s start by understanding how it works: According to the manufacturer, AirTags uses a location technology based on low-energy Bluetooth to communicate with other nearby Apple devices. This allows the AirTag to track itself through a network of nearby devices until it is at the desired location.

The declared SAR level for AirTags is 0.29 W/kg in transmit mode and 0.29 W/kg in receive mode. It is interesting and, at least, remarkable how Apple does publish a SAR evaluation for this accessory device, while devices like Google Assistant do not declare a SAR level or that such an evaluation is necessary.

In my laboratory for the evaluation of electromagnetic field emissions, I have been able to measure the pulses emitted by the device, which are at significant electric field strengths measurable in V/m, which, in the near field, are around 50 cm radius, already exceed 1 V/m; and, in close proximity to the device, it can exceed such emission several times. (Requests the technical report)

I have had the opportunity to interact with pets whose owners had fitted such devices; but they observed that, at times, their pets rejected the tracking device. Small breed dogs may be intolerant to such significant electric field emissions.

In one use case, the user used the SPIRO® SQUARE in permanent proximity to the pet, thereby stopping the abnormal and restless behavior as a reaction to the device. Although more tests are required, I recommend a SPIRO® CARD as a minimum measure.

Google Assistant

It is an artificial intelligence assistant developed by Google that is used to control connected devices, as well as providing information and entertainment through voice commands. One of Google Assistant’s main advantages is its ability to record and schedule meetings, play audio, and follow routine tasks by voice command. In addition, Google Assistant has several skills and applications, allowing you to customize its operation and increase its functionality.

Google describes that its product can: play music, control smart home devices, ask questions and receive information, and set reminders and alarms, as well as the ability to connect with other Google applications and services such as Google Calendar, Google Maps, among others.

However, some technology analysts have collected user complaints claiming that one of the drawbacks of Google Assistant is that its accuracy in recognizing voice and understanding commands can vary depending on the user’s accent or the dialect. Additionally, user privacy has been a concern due to data collection and storage.

As an EMF researcher, I can say that the device does not have a declared SAR level. Some analysts say that a specific SAR level has not been reported for devices with Google Assistant because they do not have built-in antennas and don’t function as a communications device. However, the device connects to the Internet wirelessly and has a variable near-field emission that can be measured, not to mention a low-frequency field emission that can also be detected.

Recommendations:

Do not place it on the nightstand, treat it as a WiFi Router device.

Recommended Filter:

SPIRO® CARD next to the device.

Or, alternatively, the device must be within two meters of a larger SPIRO® filter (SPIRO® SQUARE, SPIRO® DISC, or larger).
